European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, the European Commission said in a statement on Monday.

The new MoU includes a commitment to double the capacity of the Southern Gas Corridor to deliver at least 20 billion cubic meters to the European Union annually by 2027, the European Commission said.

The Commission added that Azerbaijan is now increasing deliveries of natural gas to the EU, from 8.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2021 to an expected 12 bcm in 2022.
