European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will travel to Azerbaijan's capital Baku on July 18 in search of a gas deal. EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson will also go. This visit comes as the EU seeks to reduce its reliance on Russian energy. The EU reportedly wants Azerbaijan to increase imports of natural gas, and support the expansion of a pipeline.
