The financial sector has always played a key role in Shanghai's transformation as a global financial center. Local companies have powered most of the city's growth in the past few decades. But that is changing now, with foreign financial service firms looking to play a bigger role in market development. And helping them along the way are government policies aimed at opening the domestic financial sector to foreign firms.
