Monkeypox classified as a global health emergency as WHO triggers highest alert

Monkeypox has affected more than 15,800 people in 72 countries, according to a tally by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published on July 20. On July 23, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the monkeypox outbreak to be a global health emergency – the highest alarm it can sound.
