Kherson in southern Ukraine was the first city captured by the Russian forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukrainian forces are getting ready to take it back. Nearby Mykolaiv – a hard-hit city that has successfully defended against offensives – is preparing to help Kherson fight.
