The proclamation on the state of emergency declared by then-acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe was approved after a vote in the Sri Lankan parliament on Wednesday, according to local media.
A total of 120 votes were cast in favor and 63 votes were cast against.
The proclamation was made by Wickremesinghe on July 17, and according to the legal provisions, if the approval from the parliament is not obtained within 14 days for the said proclamation, the state of emergency will be canceled.
