The Taiwan question is purely an internal matter for China and brooks no external interference, and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Wu Qian, spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, on July 28.

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Wu made the remarks in response to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2023 passed by the United States House of Representatives which reaffirms the so-called U.S. support for Taiwan's defense and asserts that the U.S. military has the right to conduct joint exercises with Taiwan and invite Taiwan to participate in the "Rim of the Pacific Exercise," mentioning that the U.S. government has recently approved a new round of arms sales to Taiwan amid growing cross-Straits tensions.
