The death toll has risen to six after a magnitude-7 earthquake hit Luzon island in the Philippines on Wednesday, the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Friday in an update.

Four people remain missing, and 136 were injured, it said.

The strong quake rattled Abra province in northern Philippines at 8:43 a.m. local time (0043 GMT) on July 27, followed by dozens of aftershocks.

The council said that nearly 80,000 people had their lives disrupted, and 1,583 homes, as well as 99 infrastructure facilities, were damaged to varying degrees.

So far, the total loss due to the earthquake is over $1 million, data from the council showed.
