Rare red lightning, known as sprites, was captured on camera by a Chinese photographer against the picturesque backdrop of Guilin's landscape in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on July 27.

Academically known as a "transient luminous event," red lightning is an electrical discharge phenomenon in the middle and upper atmosphere. Fleeting and usually invisible from the ground, the spectacular flashes are difficult to observe and even more challenging to photograph. Share the good luck and the incredible natural wonder.
