The first fully-automated container terminal in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has gone into operation at Nansha Port in Guangdong Province. Advanced technologies such as 5G communication and the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) have been implemented at the automated terminal, and more than 60 patents were created in the construction process. Compared with traditional container terminals, the new automated system can reduce needed manpower by about 70 percent while greatly improving safety.
