Polls in the West African nation of Senegal opened on Sunday for the National Assembly election. 

Approximately 7 million Senegalese will cast ballots from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to elect 165 representatives to five-year terms in the assembly.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has sent a 40-member election observation mission to supervise the process.
