Tsai Ing-wen and Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority's collusion with external forces to seek "independence" and provocation will only accelerate their own destruction and plunge Taiwan into the abyss of disaster, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, warned on Wednesday.
Ma made the remarks when commenting on U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to China's Taiwan region.
No one should underestimate the strong resolve, will and ability of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Ma said.
He criticized Tsai and the DPP authority for their long-held "Taiwan independence" stance, rejection of the 1992 Consensus that embodies the one-China principle, and deliberate moves to create confrontation across the Taiwan Strait.
Commenting on the awarding of a so-called order to Pelosi by Tsai, Ma said the DPP authority will pay an increasingly unbearable price and is doomed to fail if it continues to rely on the United States to seek "Taiwan independence."
The awarding of the "order" to Pelosi was a "political farce," he said.
Ma also criticized Tsai's remarks about the so-called military threat from the mainland and on "strengthening self-defense capabilities." She was confusing black and white by describing "just moves taken by us to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity" as a "military threat," Ma said.
He warned Tsai and the DPP authority that counting on military force to seek "Taiwan independence" will only accelerate their demise.
