The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Thursday conducted military exercises and training activities, including live-fire drills, around Taiwan island. The announcement was made 38 hours ahead of schedule. Meng Xiangqing, a professor at the National Defense University of the PLA, said the PLA's early warning reflects its sense of responsibility and the U.S. should avoid stoking tensions further.
