The international community should be aware of the severity and harm of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan region, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' meeting.
Both sides held an in-depth conversation on the Taiwan question. Wang elaborated on the history and facts of the Taiwan question, stressing that the responsibility for the current tense situation in the Taiwan Straits lies entirely with the U.S. side and that China's response is legitimate and necessary.
Balakrishnan said Singapore firmly supports the one-China policy and is opposed to "Taiwan Independence." He emphasized the need to avoid miscalculation and accidents, and stressed the need for stable U.S.-China relations, which are vital for the regional peace and security.
