Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday that China appreciates Iran's adherence to the one-China principle during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Amir-Abdollahian said his country is committed to pursuing the one-China principle and "strongly condemns the senseless behavior by the U.S. side on the Taiwan question," according to a press release by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
He said the one-Chine principle is the precondition for safeguarding regional peace and security, and pledged that Iran will continue to support China's legitimate stance.
Wang said the Chinese side appreciated Iran's immediate support on the Taiwan question, which speaks volumes about the level of the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership.
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited China's Taiwan region in disregard of China's strong opposition on Tuesday, followed by widespread condemnation.
Over the past few days, more than 160 countries have supported China's legitimate position on the question, said Wang.
He added, China is ready to work with Iran to safeguard the sovereignty, security and development interests of all parties, oppose unilateralism and bullying, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
