The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theater Command continued to test its combat capability on August 5 in joint military exercises in the seas and airspace around Taiwan Island. Multiple warplanes, including fighters, bombers, early-warning and electronic reconnaissance aircraft were deployed in the drill and more than 10 PLA Navy escort vessels of the Eastern Theater Command moved in from different directions in the waters around Taiwan Island to conduct containment operations.

On the evening of August 2, disregarding China's strong opposition and stern representations, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a blatant visit to China's Taiwan region. The Chinese People's Liberation Army has launched its largest military exercises in six strategic areas that encircle the island of Taiwan since August 4.
