Premier League major championship contender Liverpool began the 2022-23 season with a 2-2 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage in London on Saturday.

Though Fulham were just promoted to the top division, which caused a lot of trouble for Liverpool at home. Their ace striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored 43 goals for the club in the English Football League (EFL) Championship last season. Liverpool's defensive line that only allowed 26 goals last season in the Premier League couldn't stop him from scoring.

At the 32nd minute, Mitrovic turned Kenny Tete's cross from right into a 1-0 lead for Fulham by scoring a header over Trent Alexander-Arnold. Forty minutes later, he placed the home team in the leading position again (2-1) by creating and scoring a penalty after Virgil van Dijk had to tackle him in the box to stop him.

Though Liverpool are the better team on paper, they were caught off guard by Fulham with their sharp counterstrike. "The Reds" also kept missing scoring chances in the first half. Luis Diaz's goal at the 15th minute was cancelled because Andrew Robertson was in the offside position. Diaz had the opportunity to tie the score 1-1 for Liverpool but his shot hit the bar.

Liverpool's manager Jurgen Klopp sent Darwin Nunez, who cost the club 100 million euros (about $101.9 million) to acquire, to the field at the 51st minute. It turned out to be the game-saving move for the club.

At the 64th minute, Mohamed Salah broke into the box from right and delivered the ball to the front of the goal with a low pass. Nunez, who was followed closely by his defender, scored an excellent backheel goal to make it 1-1 for his club.

Sixteen minutes later, Nunez returned the favor to Salah by turning a chipping pass from Alexander-Arnold into a nimble assist for Salah who scored to tie the game again (2-2) for Liverpool. "The Reds" avoided loss in their first game of the new season.
