Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday praised Russia's immediate reiteration of its firm support for the one-China principle following U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to China's Taiwan region earlier this week.
China would like to work with Russia to further maintain the international system that is centered on the United Nations, Wang said during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 55th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Under the current circumstances, the two countries need to jointly promote regional development and mutual cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, the digital economy as well as low-carbon development, he added.
Lavrov said the U.S. has always been a bully, whose hegemonic policy has long run counter to the consensus of the international community. Such a path is doomed, he said.
