In the coming week, the foreign ministers of South Korea and Nepal will visit China, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will continue his trips in Asia, and Kenya will hold elections on August 9 to elect a new president and parliament as well as county governors and assemblies.

South Korean and Nepali foreign ministers to visit China

At the invitation of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Park Jin, the South Korean foreign minister, and Narayan Khadka, the Nepali foreign minister, will visit China from August 8 to 10, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Friday.

Wang will receive the foreign ministers in Qingdao, Shandong Province. 

It will be Park's first visit as foreign minister and also South Korea's first high-level visit to China since the country's new government took office. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. 

UN chief's trip in Asia

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is currently on a tour of Asia.

The secretary-general will travel from Japan to Mongolia and then South Korea this week before returning to New York on August 15. During his stay in Japan, Guterres took part in the Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima, which is held on August 6 every year.

Kenya's general election

The 2022 Kenyan general election is scheduled to be held countrywide on August 9.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will be stepping down after serving his constitutionally-permitted 10 years in office.

The electorate will decide between four presidential candidates, chief among them William Ruto, the sitting deputy president, and Raila Odinga, a veteran opposition leader.

Local polls in recent weeks have placed the 77-year-old Odinga ahead of his main competitor, Ruto.

Friday-Saturday: A quiet days in politics.

Sunday: 75th anniversary of Pakistan's independence from British rule.
