China's southern resort city of Sanya remains closed off following a wave of COVID-19 infections driven by the new Omicron strain. Officials say all stranded tourists have been placed in hotels. A fishing community called Yazhou in the west of the city is thought to be the starting point of the recent COVID spike. Supermarkets have been delivering groceries to people's doorsteps to minimize gatherings. Meanwhile, medical teams from the nearby provinces of Guangdong and Hunan have arrived to help ramp up testing capacity on the island. Health authorities say the infection number is still "on the rise," and that the virus has already spilled over to four other provinces.
