At least nine people were killed, and six others are missing after Seoul and its surrounding regions were pounded with heavy rain that local media Yonhap News Agency describes as the "heaviest in 80 years."
Five of the dead were reported in Seoul and three in neighboring Gyeonggi Province. One person was found dead in Gangwon Province.
China Media Group learned from the Chinese Embassy that one Chinese national was among the deceased. The embassy said the person was killed in a landslide triggered by the rainfall.
At least 14 people were injured in Seoul and the surrounding areas, the South Korean authorities said.
The accumulated precipitation in Seoul stood at 420 millimeters as of 5 a.m. on Tuesday (2000 GMT Monday), with more rain forecast.
In the glitzy, highly-concentrated Gangnam district, some buildings had no electricity and were inundated with water. Meanwhile, cars, buses and subway stations were submerged, leaving people stranded. Some stores were also under water.
