The construction of China's second home-grown, large cruise ship started in east China's Shanghai Municipality on Monday, with a steel cutting ceremony held on the same day, marking the country having basically mastered the core technologies in cruise design and construction.

Compared with China's first domestically built large cruise ship, which is under assembly in Shanghai and expected to be delivered in 2023, the second one is larger in size and capacity.

The new cruise ship, 341 meters long and 37.2 meters wide, has a gross tonnage (a measure of a ship's overall internal volume) of about 142,000, with 2,144 rooms set for passengers, 19 more than the first ship.
