At least eight people have died, and six others are missing after Seoul and its surrounding regions were pounded by heavy rain on August 8 that local media described as "the heaviest in 80 years."

China Media Group has learned via the Chinese Embassy that one Chinese national was killed in a landslide triggered by the rainfall.

Five deaths were reported in Seoul and three in neighboring Gyeonggi Province.
