Tourists who got trapped in the resort city of Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, on Saturday due to COVID-19 lockdown measures have started returning home.
According to the Hainan government, those who have stayed in areas with no infections or whose travel groups had no cases in the past week can leave, provided they clear two PCR tests within two days.
However, the city remains under "static management" with various levels of closed-off policies and continued mass testing. Many tourists and expats have decided to contribute to the COVID-19 fight – thousands have signed up to volunteer at testing sites, assist in answering government hotlines and delivering essential supplies.
