The Wild Elephant Valley in the Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna, southwest China's Yunnan Province, is an elephant paradise. A series of activities are held on August 12 (World Elephant Day) to call for more people to protect elephants. A group of Asian elephants munch on fresh watermelons, bananas and dragon fruits on a big table at the Wild Elephant Valley scenic spot. Asian elephants are under first-class state protection in China. As of the end of 2021, there were about 360 wild Asian elephants in Yunnan.
