The Latvian parliament declared Russia a "state sponsor of terrorism" in a statement released on Thursday, adding that it calls on EU countries to "immediately suspend the issuance of tourist and entry visas to Russian and Belarusian citizens."

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba later said in a tweet that "Ukraine encourages other states and organizations to follow suit."

In a Telegram post, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova called the decision by Latvia's parliament xenophobic.

Meanwhile, RIA reported that Russian Senator Sergei Tsekov said Russia may take retaliatory economic measures over the Latvian parliament's declaration.
