Quanzhou was one of the largest ports in the world during the Song and Yuan dynasties and a major center for ocean trade. According to the United Nations, Quanzhou is the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road in China. During the first six months of this year, container throughput at the Shihu Dock reached nearly 650,000 units, up 8 percent year-on-year.
