Many rural areas in China were able to climb out of poverty over the past few years due to a government initiative called "Targeted Poverty Alleviation," which targets the specific advantages of each area to try to alleviate poverty there.

In Shibadong village in central China's Hunan Province, the focus has been on tourism and showcasing all that's unique in the Miao people's way of life, and what used to be a remote village has now developed into a popular scenic spot.
