More than 2,000 tourists who were stranded in the Chinese holiday destination of Sanya in Hainan Province because of a sudden COVID-19 lockdown have now departed the city. Families, who were counting on a leisurely time on sandy beaches at luxury resorts, are relieved. Starting this past Tuesday, tour groups and individuals in areas without any infections were allowed to leave after testing negative for the virus twice over a 48-hour period. In other uplifting news, the city announced its first COVID-19 patient, a 44-year-old man who tested positive a week earlier, has been discharged from hospital.
