China defeated Japan 3-0 (25-20, 25-23 and 25-22) in the Asian Men's Volleyball Cup final in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, on Sunday to win the tournament title for the first time in 10 years.

China's first championship win came in 2012 when the team beat Iran 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 13-25 and 31-29) in Vinh Yen, Vietnam.

China pocketed their sixth straight win on Sunday after defeating Bahrain, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Iran and South Korea in their previous matches.

The two teams remained close for much of the first set. After the score reached 17-17, Yu Yuantai scored a series of points for China to lead by three before claiming the set 25-20.

China struggled early in the second set, falling behind 16-12 before the second technical timeout. Coach Wu replaced Zhang Guanhua with Dai Qingyao at opposite hitter, which turned out to be the game-changing move. China immediately improved on offense and defense and soon tied the score at 17-17.

In the end, Dai's block and an out-of-bounds spike by Japan led to a 25-23 win for China in the second set.

The final set was even closer than the first two as neither China nor Japan could establish a lead bigger than two points until the final stage. After Japan cut their deficit to two points again (24-22), Yu's spike ended the set 25-22 and served China the title.

China will participate in the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Poland and Slovenia from August 26 to September 11.
