The 2022 Asian Para Games will take place from October 22 to 28, 2023 in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), Local Organizing Committee, and Hangzhou Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (HAPGOC) agreed on Wednesday.
"We are happy to announce the new dates for the Asian Para Games, which were approved by the APC Executive Board," APC President Majid Rashed said. "We would also like to thank HAPGOC, the Chinese Paralympic Committee and Hangzhou and Zhejiang provincial governments for their continuous support and efforts to ensure that the Games take place on the new dates."
The Olympic Council of Asia in July announced that the 2022 Asian Games will happen between September 23 and October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou. Both events were postponed by a year due to COVID-19. The duration of the Para Games remains unchanged as the stakeholders wanted to make sure it won't conflict with any other international tournaments.
Hangzhou 2022 will be the second time a Chinese city will host both the Asian Games and Para Games since Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong Province, did in 2010. The Asian Para Games will become the fourth edition of the event following Guangzhou 2010, Incheon 2014, and Jakarta 2018.
About 4,000 para-athletes will participate in 616 events of 22 sports at the 2022 Asian Para Games.
