Western France now braces itself for stormy weather, hard off the back of successive heatwaves and a prolonged drought. Torrential rain and thunderstorms were forecast for parts of the UK, with warnings of flash floods. However in Spain, the heatwave sustained and firefighters continued to battle large wildfires.
