On August 14, two weeks after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, Senator Edward J. Markey, chairman of the Asia-Pacific Group of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led a delegation that arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport aboard a U.S. military plane. Liu Pengyu, the spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in the United States, protested that the United States does not want to see stability on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, and spares no effort to provoke cross-Straits confrontation and interfere in China's internal affairs.

CGTN stringer asked local people in Taipei about the impact of the successive visits of U.S. officials to Taiwan, and whether these visits contradict the U.S. claim to support the one-China policy and not support "Taiwan independence." One of the interviewees said "the U.S. does not think on behalf of the world's interests, but its own."
