Control and prevention measures have been extended in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to rise. 

During the static management period, essential services -- such as water, electricity, gas and communication networks -- are in normal operation. In each community, there are workers and volunteers on hand to ensure everyone has enough bread, oil, meat, vegetables and medicine. Sixty-three hospitals in the regional capital of Urumqi provide normal services for people with medical needs. In addition, nearly 90 percent of key industrial enterprises in Urumqi are operating normally. 

Xinjiang had been a very popular tourist destination all summer. But tens of thousands have had to end their holidays prematurely because of the outbreak. In areas that aren't reporting cases, they can leave once they have met some basic requirements, such as producing two negative tests.
