Chongqing in SW China hits 45 C, a record high temperature

The Beibei District in Chongqing Municipality in southwest China registered 45 degrees Celsius on Thursday, a new record high, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).

A heatwave had already scorched parts of southern China in August, with the NMC issuing several red alerts.
