Tibet steps up epidemic prevention, control with 3 new makeshift hospitals
01:01

China's Tibet Autonomous Region is racing against time to fight the latest flare-up of COVID-19. Authorities have set up makeshift hospitals to meet the demand for care. Tibet had reported 186 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,983 asymptomatic infections as of August 17. The region has built three makeshift hospitals in the cities of Lhasa, Xigaze, and Qamdo to accommodate asymptomatic patients and those with mild symptoms. Lhasa's new 2,000-bed makeshift hospital is in a stadium, where traditional Tibetan medicine therapy is also applied. Prevention and control work continues in Lhasa, which involves continuously disinfecting some of the city's most public areas. The region is also facilitating the safe departure of all stranded tourists.
