Both Real Madrid and Manchester United are waiting for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro to decide if he wants to accept the offer by the "Red Devils," according to ESPN.

Casemiro's side met with Real on Wednesday. The Spanish powerhouse is willing to let him go if the player wants to leave and United willing to pay at least 65 million euros (about $65.5 million).

Having played nine seasons in Real since he joined the club in 2013 (he was sent to Porto on loan during the 2014-15 season), Casemiro grew to become a world-class defender at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. He helped the club win three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and five UEFA Champions League titles among other championships.

Casemiro's current contract with Real won't come due until June 2025. ESPN reported in April that he was considering leaving after drawing interest from multiple clubs. During the team's pre-season campaign in the U.S., Real's manager Carlo Ancelotti assured Casemiro that he would be ahead of newly-arrived Aurelien Tchouameni on the rotation.

Casemiro once decided to stay at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu when the 2022-23 season began but he then changed his mind, according to ESPN, after United offered him much a better salary than what he has in Real. Meanwhile, Ancelotti put Tchouameni instead of Casemiro in the starting lineup against Almeria in the season opener on August 14.

At the age of 30, Casemiro may look at the last chance in his career to sign a big contract.

United were chasing French midfielder Adrien Rabiot of Paris Saint-Germain previously but backed off partly because of his request for a high salary. They turned to Casemiro, hoping that his defense and experience can help the club pull themselves together after suffering two straight losses since the 2022-23 Premier League season began.

United are hosting Liverpool, which finished their first two Premier League games this season both with draws, at Old Trafford on August 22.
