Manchester United and Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro to Old Trafford, the "Red Devils" announced on Friday.
Casemiro will join United after he agrees on personal terms with the club, meets visa requirements for Britain and passes a medical. It cost United 60 million pounds (about $71 million) of transfer fee plus a potential 10 million pounds (about $11.8 million) in add-ons to bring him to Premier League.
He will sign a four-year contract with the option to extend it for another year with United, according to ESPN. Sports journalist Nicolo Schira revealed that Casemiro's salary in United will be 18 million euros a year (about $18 million), which is much higher than his wages in Real.
Real Madrid also confirmed the reaching of an agreement with United in a statement. "Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to Casemiro, who is part of the club's history. Since he joined Real Madrid in January 2013 to play for Castilla at the age of 20, Casemiro has gone on to be one of the most transcendental players in one of the most significant and successful periods in our history."

Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real, confirmed that Casemiro wanted to leave after talking to him on Friday. "We've spoken this morning. He wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity. I understand this, also the club does,” Ancelotti said. “Because of what he's done for this club and for this team, we need to be respectful of this."
Real acquired 22-year-old French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in June as part of their efforts to infuse young blood to the team's middle field. He started in their 2022-23 La Liga season opener against Almeria.
Casemiro will become the fourth signing of United during the summer transfer window after Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. The club chased Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona, and Adrien Rabiot before him but failed to land them.
