Death toll swells to 38 as heavy rains wreak havoc in India

The death toll due to flash floods and landslides amid torrential rains has risen to 38 in northern and eastern India over the past two days, local media reported on Sunday.

Twenty-two deaths occurred in the mountainous northern state of Himachal Pradesh, followed by six in the eastern state of Odisha, four each in Uttarakhand and Jharkhand, and two in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
