Gunmen storm Mogadishu hotel, leave 21 dead
01:10

Al-Shabab militants stormed a hotel in Somalia's capital and engaged in an hours-long exchange of fire with the security forces, leaving at least 21 dead and more than a dozen people wounded on August 20.

The attack started with explosions outside the hotel before the gunmen entered the building. Somali security forces have ended the siege and rescued hostages from the hotel after killing the al-Shabab gunmen. In a Twitter statement released, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) strongly condemn the al-Shabaab attack on the Hyatt Hotel in Mogadishu and extend their condolences to the victims' families.
