United Nations' (UN) official Markus Potzel told CGTN that he has seen willingness within the Afghan government to address the issues of women's education, women's rights and counter-terrorism measures, after talking with some Taliban leaders and provincial governors. In fact, he thinks the majority of the country promote and support the improvement of these issues. However, he is not certain whether the Afghan Taliban have reached consensus within themselves and so the result needs time to tell.
Regarding the country's economic crisis, he says though the UN can do more, the country's government should also take a first and foremost responsibility to revive the economy and alleviate other problems it faces.
Potzel currently serves as the Deputy Special Representative (Political) for Afghanistan in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
