Team China survived a scare in their group match against Team Vietnam at the 2022 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women's Cup on Monday, clinching their second win of the tournament 3-2 (25-12, 25-6, 29-31, 21-25, 15-12) after their opening victory against South Korea in the Philippines.

The Chinese squad took an early lead before Vietnam found form in the third set against a rather young Chinese team, as China reserved 18 players from the 22-person World Championships roster to train in Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province.

Aimed at nurturing younger players, Team China subsequently suffered from lack of experience at the AVC Women's Cup, as Vietnam forced instability on the Chinese ladies' performance with a hard-fought third set victory and went on to level the match 2-2.

Vietnam, however, couldn't keep the momentum when their serving errors cost them precious points in the decider, while a spike from Wu Mengjie at the end of a long rally boosted China's confidence to claim the set 15-12.

China will meet hosts the Philippines on Tuesday, and wrap up their preliminary matches against Iran on Thursday.
