Darya Dugina, the daughter of Russia's prominent philosopher and social activist Alexander Dugin, was murdered, the Russian Investigative Committee said Sunday.

Darya Dugina, born in 1992, a journalist and political scientist, died on the spot after an explosive device went off in the Toyota Land Cruiser. She was driving near the village of Bolshiye Vyazemy in the Moscow region on Saturday evening, the committee said in a statement.

She was killed in a "pre-planned and custom-made" murder, said the statement.

The explosive device was planted under the bottom of the car on the driver's side, it said, adding that an investigation is underway.

Russia's TASS state news agency quoted Andrei Krasnov, the head of the Russian Horizon social movement and the person familiar with Darya Dugina, saying the vehicle belonged to her father and that he was probably the intended target.

"This was the father's vehicle. Darya was driving another car but she took his car today... As far as I understand, Alexander or probably they together were the target," said Krasnov.

The Russian Foreign Ministry speculated that Ukraine might have been behind the attack while Ukraine denied any involvement.
