Another superb display of teamwork. Another phenomenal goal fest. Another scintillating win for Paris Saint-Germain.
The French powerhouse extended their perfect start to the new season of the Ligue 1 with an astonishing 7-1 rout of Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The home side, who famously pipped PSG to the 2020-21 league title, looked like a shadow of their former selves on Sunday night and were shredded to pieces by Christophe Galtier's high-flying stars.
Kylian Mbappe, the highest-paid footballer in the world, took just eight seconds to put PSG in front. He impeccably pounced on Lionel Messi's exquisite pass over the top before dinking the ball beyond goalkeeper Leo Jardim with aplomb.
According to stats provider Opta, the only other time a goal was scored that fast in a Ligue 1 match was when Michel Rio netted in eight seconds for Caen against Cannes on February 15, 1992.
Mbappe is now ahead of Paul Le Guen, who had scored the quickest goal in PSG's history until then. The French midfielder found the net against Apoel Nicosia after only 13 seconds of play during the Cup Winners' Cup on September 28, 1993.

For Lille, however, the torture had only just begun. Messi delivered a masterclass again before the half hour mark when the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner nonchalantly passed Nuno Mendes' cutback into the bottom corner to double PSG's advantage.
Lille had a glorious chance to cut the deficit in a rare counter attack, but it was PSG who put the game beyond doubt when fullback Achraf Hakimi ran onto Neymar's delicious pass before adding a third. Neymar then also got on the scoresheet after unleasing a fierce shot past Jardim to make it 4-0 before half-time.
PSG continued to show off their attacking prowess within minutes of the restart as Neymar netted the 5th goal of the night with a clinical effort in the box. Lille grabbed a late consolation goal through Jonathan Bamba, but Mbappe refused to take his foot off the gas as the World Cup winner completed the rout by scoring further two goals after sumptuous combinations with Neymar.
The hat-trick against Lille marked another milestone for Mbappe, who has now become the youngest player to score 200 club goals in the 21st century at 23 years and 244 days.

Despite PSG's undisputed dominance in Ligue 1, there have been concerns over Neymar's relationship with Mbappe, who penned a new deal with the French champions earlier this year. The pair engaged in an unseemly exchange over who should take a penalty during their last outing.
But as things stand, the two icons, along with Messi, all appeared to be on the same page on Sunday as they have now won all three of their Ligue 1 games so far, scoring 17 and conceding only three.
"I am very satisfied, obviously with the victory, but also with the individual and collective attitude," beamed Galtier after the game. "Obviously it's only one match, but there are strong signs between the players, a lot of connections, relationships, a desire to play for the team and not individually, even when the score was settled.
"Our players up front made the effort to get back and everyone contributed to this great victory, it's a nice image of Paris Saint-Germain tonight."

It remains to be seen whether PSG can carry their domestic dominance to the Champions League. But with their star-studded attacking trio in such startling form, it will be just a matter of time before they clinch a ninth French title in 11 years.
Elsewhere, Barcelona's new signing Robert Lewandowksi made his mark in La Liga, scoring twice in his new team's 4-1 win over Real Sociedad. Lewandowksi's former club Bayern Munich thrashed hosts Bochum 7-0.
English champions Manchester City came from 3-1 down to a draw at Newcastle in a six-goal thriller, preserving their unbeaten start to their Premier League title defense.
