Russia, as a strong and independent country, is committed to pursuing on the international stage only policies that meet its fundamental interests, President Vladimir Putin said in a video address to the Russian National Flag Day on Monday.

Putin added that "the desire to live according to our own wills, to choose our own path and to follow it, has become part of our people's genetic code."
