Drought conditions triggered by a sustained heatwave and low precipitation in east China's Jiangxi Province have shrunk the country's largest freshwater lake by 75 percent, according to local authorities. As of August 21, the water level at Poyang Lake's landmark Xingzi hydrological station had receded to 9.66 meters, the lowest for this season since 1951.
