The remaining ruins of the smoldering Beirut Port silos' northern block collapsed into a cloud of dust on August 23. The silos' southern block still stands next to the charred ruins. The silos had absorbed much of the impact of the massive explosion of haphazardly stored ammonium nitrate fertilizer that killed more than 200 people on August 4, 2020.
