Most countries in the world know that there is only one China, the People's Republic of China, and Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times, said Ante Simonic, former Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and former Ambassador to China. 

He made the remarks during an interview to China Media Group recently when commenting on the U.S. House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to China's Taiwan region at the beginning of August. 

The visit has intensified tensions across the Taiwan Straits. 

Simonic has worked and lived in China for many years. While paying close attention to China's development and progress, he also has a deep understanding of China's history and culture. 

Noting that China is the only country in the world with a civilization that has lasted for 5000 years, he stressed that the country also has the longest diplomatic history in the world. 

"History has taught them to be patient and to take the right measures at the best time to achieve reunification," he said. 

He added that what the U.S. has done in the crisis shows its arrogance as a "traditional power". 

Talking about the reason behind the U.S.' actions, he pointed out that the United States wants to "maintain the status quo for its own selfish interests" as Taiwan region has strategic significance in the Asia-Pacific region. 

"China will solve this problem in a wise way. The Taiwan question is China's internal affairs, and China will never allow other countries to interfere in its internal affairs," he said.
