Power stations in scorched southwestern regions in China are striving to raise output to deal with the surging electricity demand during a prolonged drought and heatwave. The blistering heatwave has driven the electricity demand up 25 percent this year to 65 million kilowatts in Sichuan Province. To meet the growing demand, the coal company of China Energy transported coal from northwest China's Shaanxi, Gansu, and Xinjiang to the sweltering Sichuan and Chongqing.
