U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone on August 25 to discuss concerns over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Biden called on Moscow to demilitarize around the Ukrainian plant, which is Europe's largest, and allow international officials to assess the safety of the Russian-controlled nuclear complex. The two leaders also discussed the White House's new infusion of $3 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Biden also congratulated Ukraine on its 31st Independence Day. On Twitter, Biden said Ukraine's independence day anniversary was "bittersweet" and that the United States will continue to support Ukraine.
